Remember when Christmas shopping for special family and friends meant strolling down sidewalks from shop to shop discovering unique presents for each one on your list? Maybe you remember, or maybe you wish you could have had the opportunity to remember a time like that – a time to immerse gently into the Christmas experience, freed from the crowds and the chaos of jammed shopping centers. The joy that’s found in celebrating your connections with family and friends that doesn’t come when you sit in front of a screen and plop purchases into a virtual cart. There’s that excitement in finding just the perfect gift, instead of giving that predictable gift card.

This endearing holiday experience still exists on the Square in our little village of Wimberley, TX. The highlight of the season each year is the Winter’s Eve Celebration. This year it will be held on Saturday, December 9 from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm, with stores open until 8:00pm. Our local shop owners are all family-owned small businesses and are so grateful for the support. Many of the shop owners can be found in the stores assisting with your personal gift purchases.

This year the Christmas presents Santa receives will be passed along to the Barnabas Connection. We are so fortunate to have this local organization to serve as a clearinghouse for people in need. Their focus is primarily on the needs of children in our community. After Santa’s parade and gifts collection (that kick off the day at 10:00am), he will be available in Henson Square for photos and your personal hints regarding Christmas morning.

Musicians will be scattered throughout the Square, filling the air with sounds of the season to enjoy while you shop. Hannah Swan as well as Reese Wade will be at the main stage in front of Kiss the Cook. Later in the evening, a fan favorite, 183 South Band will play as well ending the evening with a street dance. The Quarter Shops and Creek House will have entertainers and you can also enjoy the musicians who will be in front of Ceremony, the Wildlife Art Gallery.

There will be activities that the whole family can experience together. Scattered throughout the Square will be face painting, festive glitter tattoos, Bounce House, crafting stations including cookie decorating, ornaments and games. There is no charge for these activities. Mulled wine for the adults and s’mores for the young and the young-at-heart will be available at several locations on the Square. In addition to local shopkeepers, local non-profit organizations and WISD athletics teams will be assisting in the celebrations.

We will save a spot for you, so please make sure to mark the date for a must do event on your Holiday Calendar. Can’t wait to see you, as we celebrate Winter’s Eve on the Square in our delightful village, Wimberley, TX.
